A Rockin’, Creative “Trash the Dress” shoot – Part 1

My good friend Cathy Empey were talking one day about creative ideas and discussing that sometimes we just want to do some wild ideas when it comes to Styling and Photography. I had been to a birthday party with one of my daughters and they were throwing paint around and it gave me this idea for a crazy “Trash the Dress” photo shoot *. Although we didn’t end up throwing paint around (maybe next time!), I had some props, hats, and tattoo stockings and I went about finding a wedding dress (craigslist!) so we could make it happen. One of my good friends and makeup assistant’s Brittany, agreed to be our model for this creative shoot and another new friend Lesley Adley of Adley Studios jumped on board as the photographer!

This is Part 1 of a two part post – there are just so many great photos to show! Brittany did her own makeup with a smoky eye and coral/red lip (and we added shimmer in the corners for a pop). I used a reverse barrel iron on her hair to get those long perfect coiled curls. Thanks so much Lesley for stepping up to photograph and for executing my crazy, creative ideas. These photos were taken at the Pier in White Rock, a painted bus shelter and the diner 5 Corners Cafe.

*Trash the Dress is a relatively new concept that many brides-to-be that I’ve met haven’t heard of yet (and most of them seem shocked and horrified at the suggestion!)  “Trash The Dress” began in America (where else?!) and basically involves the bride (and sometimes the groom) in a photoshoot totally different to the posed, perfect photos on their wedding day.
