MY Favourite Colour palette is on TREND for this season

Last summer (well really about a month ago! :-0)  I was doing some painting outside (our playhouse, not very exciting!) and I realized how much that I have missed putting colour palettes together. Many people that are in my life now, Stella clients, makeup clients and other parents at school and people in my circles, don’t know that I used to work in the paint industry. Creating colour palettes and putting together colour schemes was a key part of my job. Sometimes it feels like I left all of that behind when I left Benjamin Moore. Now I am trying to think of it as that perhaps I just took a loooooong hiatus. I’m not practicing Interior Design. I have never felt like I completely fit into that world! In the beginning of my career in Design after graduation, I spent quite a bit of time drafting and space-planning and got bored with that very quickly. Like about a month into it! So I moved on to my job at Benjamin Moore and kind of left traditional design (space planning and construction) behind. My passion for makeup and colour has really driven my career, I guess. And also my love for pretty things! And inspiring people….not sure where this is going…..

Sooooooo, going through my daily Pinterest rituals,  I realized that my Favourite colour is the Trend Colour of the year (Benjamin Moore’s pick). I have been literally obsessed with blues and shades of what I call beach-blues for about 5 years. In clothing, in decor and accessories too: beach glass, watery starfish, skies and gems. Some of my favourite blues are in the BM 800’s colours (Benjamin Moore’s old old old colour system that is still used and can still be tinted, you have to ask for it at the store. They are quoting a US colour number).

So the 2014 Trend Colour is…….Breath of Fresh Air #806!!!!

(MONTVALE, NJ—October 2, 2013) — Benjamin Moore, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway and one of North America’s most respected paint and coatings manufacturers, unveiled today its highly anticipated Color of the Year for 2014 to be “Breath of Fresh Air” (color number 806) as part of its Color Trends 2014 palette. Announced by newly appointed Benjamin Moore Creative Director Ellen O’Neill at the opening of the company’s New York City showroom during Fall Market 2013 for architects and designers, Breath of Fresh Air is a gorgeous, ethereal blue serving as a “new neutral” that is livable and functional.
“We chose Breath of Fresh Air because we were seeing it across several different environments—it’s our new neutral,” said O’Neill. “Our Color of the Year and Color Trends 2014 palette is a direct result of the fresh color cues and pastel trends we’ve seen throughout the home furnishing, fashion and even pop culture landscape.”

For the 2014 Color Trends collection, Benjamin Moore decided to break away from the pack with a collection that is not only rich and enduring, but livable for today’s homeowner or designer as each hue resonates with many different styles. As color rarely exists in isolation, Benjamin Moore designed a palette of 23 colors that not only stand each on their own but also work well in harmony allowing the transitions of spaces and colors to flow seamlessly.
O’Neill added: “We know that color is the ultimate form of personal expression, so we curated this collection to help consumers create beautiful spaces with confidence.”

Is it because I’m on trend because I’ve worked in the trend industry and I have a sixth sense of what’s about to come? Or luck?! Or because I follow fashion? Hmmmm. What do you think?
