Make every year your milestone year! If we only were as confident in our youth as we are when we get older. I have done makeup on many photo shoots with women getting Boudoir photos done or are being photographed for a variety of different reasons. Most of these women, unless they are professional models, are over age 35. And I can say from personal experience too, that every year older, I am a little more confident, appreciative of my health and happy to be celebrating another year on this earth. And even if I am 20 lbs heavier, or not feeling in the best health, celebrating my successes and doing a little time in front of the camera makes me feel pretty damn good!
Ms. S is a friend of mine that was in town from Montreal for work, and she had the opportunity to stay over the weekend. Since she was going to be in a beautiful spot (White Rock, BC) and is a sports photographer herself, she asked if I would do her makeup and help coordinate a fashion-styled photo shoot. Given that she is from Montreal, Ms. S has a lot of style, finesse and an eye for fashion! She brought a variety of outfits with her, and gave me free reign with her hair and makeup. We worked with two different photographers, with different styles and in different locations. Part 1 was shot by Nomo Akisawa from Simply Sweet Photography. Nomo has a variety of fashion styled photo-shoots in her portfolio, and I love the style and her edits of some of the following photos she captured during our time together.
For her hair and makeup, Ms. S was really open to me using whatever colours and makeup that I wanted to use. It is a challenge sometimes to create a makeup look that stands out, and doesn’t look like you are creating some ridiculous fashion-y look that could replicated or is even inspirational. Especially when you want your client to look and feel pretty too! So I concentrated on her eyes, using Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadows, and wetting the darkest purple and dragging it across the upper lid, close to the her lash line. I used the light green and highlight colours to blend, also using also Tease from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. On her lips I used OCC Lip Tar in Ophelia and MAC Lip Pencil in Dervish. I love the way her eyes looked…and I added false lashes, of course too! Ms. S had her own eye pencils with her so I rimmed the top of her eye with her own deep purple, and then inside the lower water line with her own black pencil.
